Blanka Vlašić European Sportswomen of the Year 2009.

Zagreb (January 14, 2010) - Croatian best athlete Blanka Vlašić, was selected for Best European sportswoman in the traditional 27th choice of sports journalists of the European Union (UEPS). Top athletes were chosen by the European national associations of European sports journalists and first time European news agencies, a double world high jump champion Blanka Vlašić was celebrated with a total of 30 points. Second place went to an Italian swimmer Federica Pellegrini with 22 points, and the third is last year's champion, Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva (20).
In men's competition the Swiss tennis player Roger Federer was selected for the Best European Sportman with 54 points. Second place went to world champion in Formula 1 Britain's Jenson Button with 18 points, and the third is a Norwegian biathlon Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (13).
